Earlier this year my kids got hooked on the movie Beetlejuice, I love the movie as well so I was excited that they wanted to be Beetlejuice and Lydia for Halloween.
For my son’s costume, I bought a woman’s coat at a thrift store and the pants as well, I had to alter them quite a bit because they were size 8 and 16W, lol. He had a dress shirt which I tea stained along with a ruffle that I later sewed onto the shirt. I made the bow tie and vest from a piece of burgundy fabric. I painted a pair of converse white and did his makeup and hair and he was set to go.
For my daughter, I bought a flower girl dress from a thrift store and attempted to dye it but since it was polyester it did not dye at all. I decided to paint the dress with a mixture of acrylic paint and textile medium. I added tons of tulle to the dress and made the little tulle sleeves for her as well as the veil. I painted some silk roses dark burgundy and put some makeup on her and teased her hair, a lot, and she was ready to go. They wore these costumes to their Trunk or Treat event at their school and were a hit!
