Homemade Easy and Darling Pebbles Costume

The hardest part of this Pebbles costume was finding the right fabric for the top. I searched Joann’s Fabric and local shops, but had a challenge finding a leopard print that was adorable and comfortable for my little girl. Either the leopard print was bleh or the fabric was a thick flannel or scratchy faux fur. I finally purchased a long woman’s nightgown (on clearance!) that I used to make the top and had enough left over to make a little cape to help keep her warm. I used the bottom seam of the nightgown for the top, so all I had to add was a seam in the back. I used string to measure the diameter it needed to be (my toddler does not like to stand still), as well as the length.

I attached a yard of black satin ribbon to the top in the center, and made a feather/bone/ribbon bow to attach to the front. I found the plastic bones in a package at a local Halloween store and they looked far better than my attempts at a fabric bone. The feathers I found at Joann’s fabric (on clearance). They came on a roll and it was easy to super-glue a small length of feathers to the ribbon. I made a similar piece and slid a hair clip into the ribbon to pin it to her hair.

I made the tutu by using a piece of elastic (cut to the length of the string, and then shortened it twice as the tulle stretched it) and black, white, brown, and light brown glimmer tulle. I wrapped the different colors of tulle around a cracker box to cut the pieces to the same length, and then combined two colors, varying the color combos, of course, before using a simple slip-knot to tie them around the elastic. I made a simple cape using a soft black flannel fabric to line the inside of my leftover fabric from the nightgown with satin ribbon sewn into the seam to tie together in the front. I used a pair of black leggings and her super soft slippers to complete this costume.

This costume was really easy to put together and came out wonderful! I am not a seamstress, but this really was an easy to assemble costume. We received a ton of compliments for it at her Halloween party with her little friends and when we went trick-or-treating. Loved it!
