Sassy Tauriel Costume from Lord of the Rings

Let me start out by saying that I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan. After seeing Desolation of Smaug last year, I thought it would be fun to dress as Tauriel on Halloween. I got a lot of compliments on it (and second place in a costume contest), and it was nice and warm to trick-or-treat in.

Pretty much the whole costume (base tunic, corset, jerkin, arm bracers) was made by my mom. I think the only things she didn’t make were the leggings and the boots, and the pendant. I made the pendant with some components I found at JoAnn Fabrics.

The base tunic is made out of (I think) green imitation suede, and we sewed trim on the sleeves and down the front to imitate the seams. The corset and bracers are made out of brown vinyl with a floral pattern etched into it, and the jerkin is made of a green linen-look fabric.

Break in your boots before you wear them with the costume, though. I ended up with blisters.
