Oh, the Places You’ll Go! Dr. Seuss Costume

My 2 year old son loves to read. One of his favorites books is Dr. Suess’s Oh, the Places You’ll Go! One night, as I reading to him, it hit me like a bolt of lightening! Bam! The creative juices started flowing and the next thing I know, I’m designing a paper cardboard box into a whimsical hot air balloon basket.

A night of collaboration with my mother-in-law on how to paint up the basket to look it’s best, came with the ultimate decision to use a primer base coat. Best decision ever! The craft paint on top of the primer was the icing on the cake. Fabulous! When an idea comes together, the results are magical.

Now, I do like to dress my little handsome man in dapper outfits, so of course he had a pair of suspenders lying around to hoist this basket around his person. The next conundrum I faced though, was the task of attaching balloons to survive the elements of the outdoors and to make sure I didn’t damage the inside of the sweet paint job I did on the basket as well, because this cool of an Halloween costume was of course being used on more than one occasion. My A-game had to be on and it didn’t fail me. Paper clips! I poked a hole near each corner and thread it through until it circled one end. On the other end, I tied the balloon strings. Genius, I know.

The end result is a pure work of art that my son absolutely loves. The people of the world, okay – maybe just our community, so far, loved his costume! We had spectators coming up wanting to take photos of my handsome little man, I mean costume left and right. They loved how fun it was! The kids loved it as well. They couldn’t get enough of the balloons. Seriously, just add balloons to any costume and it will probably be a hit!

All in all, this was super fun to make for my awesome guy. He might never remember it, but I will make to sure to have the pictures for a lifetime. Not sure I can out do this one, but I have a whole year to think about it!
